City plans bed tax for future festival-goers

Edinburgh Festival-goers could pay a bed tax for every night spent in the capital’s hotels as part of the local authority’s plans to raise the profile of events.

The move would see the city become the first in the UK to charge the levy that could potentially earn it £3.2 million for advertising, branding and marketing the city. Some of the funds raised would be spent on the maintenance of its World Heritage Site status.
