A man who died during a charity walk on Britain's highest mountain has been named by police.

Gerard Boyle, 51, collapsed on a path during the ascent of Ben Nevis at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

An RAF helicopter was scrambled to the scene and airlifted him to Belford Hospital in Fort William but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Boyle was a retired civil servant from Glasgow and had been doing the walk to raise money for charity, police said.
