A MAN on a two-year mission to walk the entire coastline of Britain has reached Scotland after more than 200 days on the road.

Alex Ellis-Roswell, 22, is due to arrive in Gretna today on the latest leg of his epic journey, which is being undertaken to raise funds for the RNLI lifeboat service.

Mr Ellis-Roswell set out from Kent and has so far covered 3,000 miles, walking in a clockwise direction round Britain and sleeping in a tent at night.

Along the way he's coped with storms and gales and sore knees, and encountered stunning views and many helpful people along the way.

He said: "I grew up on the coast in Kent and had a boat when I was younger, so I've always been aware of the lifeboat service and what they do.

"they are amazing people and I wanted to do something to say thanks. It's been an incredible experience so far.

"I've had to walk through two hurricanes and storms and rain, but I've made a lot of friends who've done a lot for me on the way.

"People follow me on social media and some have been kind enough to put me up for the night. From a chimney sweep I met when I started out to meeting Princess Anne, everyone has been incredibly supportive"

The hiker has so far raised £6,000 for charity and is hoping that Scots will prove as generous as those who have donated during the first leg of his journey.

He said: "I'm looking forward to finding out more about the coast of Scotland. There's a lot of it. I'm also keen to see some of the more isolated lifeboat stations."
