THE parents of a four-year-old girl found unconscious at the bottom of a swimming pool during her first holiday abroad have been given a glimmer of hope after she showed signs of emerging from a coma.

Spanish medical staff said at the weekend Cally Simpson could be waking up after being put into an artificially-induced coma.

In a message posted on a Facebook page set up to keep friends informed of Cally's condition, her father Steven Simpson, wrote: "Just spoke to Cally's nurse. She looks like she's waking up. People there is a God up there. I knew my baby was strong. Mummy's with her now."

Cally, from Arbroath, Angus, was on a break with her father and other relatives when she was found in the pool at the Villa Marina Hotel in Salou on Tuesday.

A holidaymaker pulled her out of the water and she was given emergency first aid at the pool side before being taken to hospital in Barcelona.

Her mother Kate Miller, also from Arbroath, battled flight disruption following strikes in France to reach to reach her daughter's bedside on Thursday.

The news that she may be coming out of a coma follows a cardiologist's update that Cally's heart showed signs of improvement.

The Facebook site Saving Cally Simpson has received thousands of messages of support.

One supporter, Dawn Humphries, wrote: "Let's get more prayers for little Cally! Fight harder and be strong Cally!"
