Concern as youth orchestra funding is halved

SCOTLAND'S leading youth music organisation may be forced to abandon much of its pioneering educational work after its funding was halved for next year, officials warned.

Creative Scotland, the body that administers funding for arts organisations in Scotland, wrote to the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) yesterday to say that its £206,000 funding will be cut to £103,000 from next April as part of a review of the arts body’s foundation organisations.
