Conman jailed for £10,000 bank swindle

A white man with a strong Scottish accent swindled a bank out of almost £10,000 by persuading staff he was a wealthy Asian businessman.

Donald Lindsay, aged 40, dressed up in a suit and went into the bank in the quiet Devon town of Ottery St Mary, claiming to be Bradford-based entre-preneur Ali Qumran.

He was accompanied by a smartly dressed woman and cashed two cheques after telling staff he was the director of a genuine company who was buying poultry raising equipment from a local farm for cash.
