Cost of meals for elderly soars

SCOTLAND'S largest local authority is under fire after more than tripling the cost of meals for the elderly while cutting what it serves by one-third.

Hundreds of pensioners and carers of those who use Glasgow's day centres each week are to receive letters telling them the subsidy for the meals is being removed and they will rise in price from 81p to £2.97.
