Council agrees stay of execution for trees

THE axing of trees along a picturesque stretch of river to allow flood defences has been halted amid concerns a council did not have planning permission to do so.

The Herald highlighted the felling of more than a dozen mature trees last month and residents were astonished to discover more bankside woodland along the Water of Leith in Edinburgh was to be cut down.
