Councils bid to share services and save £70m

An overhaul of local government to bolster the west of Scotland against an unprecedented squeeze on the public purse has identified savings of up to £70 million over five years.

The pioneering project in which eight Scottish councils in the Clyde Valley would operate services across their own borders has been advanced over the past year and will see the authorities move towards plans they agree on and can put into practice.
