Council's honours plan halted

CITY councillors in Aberdeen have called a halt to plans to bestow freedom of the city on nominees including golfer Paul Lawrie and former footballer Denis Law amid plans to revise the honours process.

Council leader Barney Crockett won unanimous support for his proposal to review the procedures governing the conferring of Freedom of the City.

In the meantime, the council have decided no further action should be taken on the three recent nominations – Paul Lawrie, Denis Law and Professor Paul Mealor of the University of Aberdeen.
