Paper Roses, written by Fred Spielman and Janice Torre, first became a UK hit in June and July 1960, when three different artists hit the pop charts with versions with varying degrees of success.

It was former Miss Oklahoma beauty pageant winner Anita Bryant who had the most success internationally with the country song, at the time reaching number five in the US chart and number 25 in the UK. For 13 years it was the all-girl British trio The Kaye Sisters who had the most success with the song in the UK, reaching the top 10 in July, 1960.

But in 1973, riding the wave of Osmond-mania, Marie Osmond took the song to number two in the UK charts and number five in the US. It became her signature tune and her only British hit.

Paper Roses has been adopted by fans of SPL side Kilmarnock FC as the club's anthem and is played at games.
