A British couple have been killed in a sand-buggy accident while working in the Middle East.

Teachers Eamonn Morgan and Charlotte Sant were killed on Saturday when the vehicle they were travelling in veered off a steep incline on sand dunes in Qatar.

Liverpool John Moores University graduate Mr Morgan, 24, who was originally from Newry, Northern Ireland, and Miss Sant, from Manchester, are understood to have been passengers in the vehicle which overturned.

Two friends who were visiting from Ireland were also injured. It is not thought that their injuries are life-threatening.

The couple, who met while studying in Liverpool, had taken sports teaching posts at an international school in Doha and were keen Gaelic Football players.

The chairman of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Qatar, Peter Crowe, said: "It's with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of two of our members, two of our friends, two of our family." He said Mr Morgan was an 'absolute gent' who always had a smile on his face.

"Eamonn and Charlotte will be sorely missed. We are thinking of their family and friends back home."
