Crackdown on wealthy criminals

THE net is closing on people who use crime to fund lavish lifestyles, the Scottish Justice Secretary warned as a new clampdown was launched.

A joint operation by Lothian and Borders Police, Central Scotland Police and Fife Constabulary will urge the public to inform on those they believe are making money from crime.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "With the public's help, more of those profiting from crime will be firmly brought to justice."

The push follows the first phase of the campaign in 2011 which saw 44 people arrested and £6.4 million of cash and assets identified for seizure.
