The initial moves towards appointing a new chief executive of Scotland's arts funding body will start today after the deadline for applications passed.

Creative Scotland will begin talks with recruiters Badenoch & Clark over the £110,000-a-year post.

The recruitment follows Andrew Dixon's decision to step aside after a period of controversy and crisis at the body, which distributes £80 million a year in Government and lottery funds.

Interviews with the Creative Scotland recruitment panel will take place on April 23 and 24.

The panel includes two prominent former critics of the funding body – Vicky Featherstone, former artistic director of the National Theatre of Scotland, and award-winning author Janice Galloway.

Creative Scotland is looking for someone "with integrity, vision and imagination, who understands Scotland's unique cultural landscape, who can work effectively with a team and community, and who values the remarkable contribution that the Scottish arts can make both nationally and internationally."

The successful candidate will also have a "wide understanding of social, political, creative and cultural Scotland".

The body is undergoing internal reforms, and staging Open Sessions around the country to find ideas for the way forward.
