CRIME writer Peter May is to return the scene of many of his plots this week when he launches his latest book on Lewis.

Mr May is best known for The Lewis Trilogy of books, which have sold more than one million copies in the UK alone.

The author will give a talk at An Lanntair in Stornoway on Thursday to celebrate the release in paperback of his latest thriller, Entry Island.

It was first launched in hardback in January and is set between the Hebrides and Quebec and tackles the subject of the Highland Clearances.

Mr May said he wanted to launch the paperback on Lewis and put on an audio-visual show "for the people to whom I feel I owe so much".

One of the films he will show features the research he did on the islands before writing the book.

Glasgow-born Mr May also wrote and co-created the first Gaelic TV soap opera Machair, which was shot on Lewis.

The Lewis Trilogy is to be made into three two-hour TV films starting next year.

The books, whose protagonist is Detective Inspector Fin Macleod, have even inspired the Peter May Literary Trail for fans to visit sites mentioned in the tomes and is now featured on visitouterhebrides.co.uk.
