ASPIRING cyclists who fancy being a future Sir Chris Hoy or Victoria Pendleton will have the chance to put their skills to the test today.

Members of the public are being invited to take a virtual spin around the boards of the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome at an event at Buchanan Galleries centre in Glasgow.

The person with the fastest ride will win tickets for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in a fortnight.

Setting the benchmark time to beat will be Commonwealth Games bronze medallist James McCallum.

Using a state-of-the-art Wattbike training bike, Bellshill-born McCallum will hammer out a 250m time-trial – the equivalent distance of a lap around the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The public will then have the chance to test their own pedalling power against the clock.

All 16,000 tickets for the three-day UCI track event, from November 16 to 18, sold out in less than an hour.
