WORLD-CLASS cyclists will be speaking at a major mountain biking festival in the Scottish Borders, it has been announced.

Grant Ferguson, who will represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, and Hans "No Way" Rey, a Swiss veteran known as the world's foremost adventure rider, are among the names confirmed for the event, which it is hoped will highlight the quality of mountain biking in Scotland to an international audience.

The Scottish Mountain Biking Conference 2014 International Edition, is taking place at the Peebles Hydro Hotel in November and is expected to generate £250,000 for the economy. More than 200 mountain biking experts from the countries including New Zealand and Canada will attend.

The conference, supported by VisitScotland, will also include a number of field visits throughout the country, including the Scottish Mountain Bike Centre at Glentress, the World Cup trail at Fort William and the Commonwealth Games trail at Cathkin Braes in Glasgow.

Tourism Minister Fergus Ewing said: "Scotland's outdoor sports industry is an important part of our overall economy,"
