CYCLING'S golden couple Laura Trott and Jason Kenny are to tie the knot.

The track cyclists announced their engagement on Twitter, with the double Olympic champion Trott writing: "Merry Christmas everyone. I've had the most amazing couple of days thanks to @JasonKenny107 and the whole family #engaged."

Trott, 22, took two golds at London 2012 in the team pursuit and omnium and went on to win gold for England in the 25km points race at this year's Commonwealth Games

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Kenny also topped the Olympic podium in team sprint and individual sprint before winning a silver medal at the Glasgow Games.

Both are expected to be part of the British team for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The couple went public about their relationship during the London Games when they were spotted kissing while watching an event together in the stands alongside David Beckham.

Kenny later said: "It was never a secret, to be honest with you. It wasn't like we were trying to hide it away.

"In the build-up to London we were so focused on racing, and afterwards we could just relax. When we won the golds we became famous quite quickly, and it was all thrust into the spotlight. But I don't think that changes anything."

The couple now live together in Manchester. Speaking previously about their relationship, Trott said: "He is really funny and so laid back. We're total opposites. I'm dead loud and talk non-stop and he's so chilled and sits there and listens to me.

"He's romantic too. He takes me to dinner to the lushest places and never lets me pay."
