The Duchess of Rothesay was yesterday persuaded to climb aboard the late TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright's old Triumph Thunderbird in Edinburgh.

She was taking part in an event in the capital for the Scottish Baton Pass Challenge, run by the Royal Voluntary Service to celebrate the work of volunteers. It was driven by Drew Drent, 34, with Margaret Collinson in the side car. The 84-year-old has been volunteering since the age of 14, and was presented with the British Empire Medal this year.

The challenge covered 2,500 miles in 92 days, and the baton was taken on a rickshaw to continue its journey to Glasgow by volunteer Dominic McCreadie, 75.
