Day centre closures attacked

Opposition councillors have condemned a decision by Glasgow City Council to press ahead with the closure of three learning disability day centres despite protests from service users and the area's carers' champion.

The Social Care Policy Development Committee agreed yesterday to forward the closure plan to the council's executive committee, in line with plans put forward by David Williams, executive director of social care Services.

The council has revised its plans in light of consultation with service users and carers, pledging to retain cash saved from the closures to use for more personalised services.
