MOST people want goods they order on the internet to be delivered on a Sunday, according to a new report.

Research of the logistics industry by Barclays found seven out of 10 consumers wanted Sunday deliveries, while a third of firms were interested in the idea.

About half of 2,000 consumers canvassed for the report said they would order more products online if delivery services were improved while a poll of 50 retailers and logistics companies showed a major problem was consumers not being at home to receive a delivery.

Mike Rigby, head of manufacturing, transport and logistics at Barclays, said: "A competitive and growing delivery market is an exciting place to be at present. The real winners will be those who invest in technology and innovation."

The report predicts the number of deliveries will increase by 40 per cent in 2018 to 1.3 billion.
