Designer items fly off shelves in charity sale

Bargain hunters have been flocking to a charity shop in Edinburgh for its much-anticipated January sale, where Alexander McQueen jackets and Dolce & Gabbana shoes are among the bargains on offer.

There were queues down the street outside the Shelter shop on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge yesterday morning in advance of its annual sale, famous for its high quality, high value second-hand stock.

A total of £1700 was taken in the first hour, reaching £3000 by lunchtime. This year's sale includes sunglasses by Dior, Prada and Gucci from £20, cashmere scarves from £10 and vintage Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis LPs at £20, as well as vintage jewellery and decorative glass.

Shop manager Pete Jew said: "Shoppers will not only be able to pick up fantastic designer brands at discount prices but all funds raised will go towards supporting Shelter Scotland's work to help people struggling with housing issues."
