A CHARITY has called for compulsory training over Huntington's Disease after a disabled fan suffering from the neurological illness was refused entry to Hampden.

Derek Hastie, 51, from Prestonpans, East Lothian, missed the chance to see Hibs' 4-3 Scottish Cup semi-final win against Falkirk.

His family say he was accused of being drunk because of the way he was walking and talking – a symptom of the disability.

The Scottish Huntington's Association said it would approach football authorities to see what training can be organised for stewards.

John Eden, chief executive of the Scottish Huntington's Association said: "It is a common occurrence people living with the illness are assumed to be drunk, causing great distress."

Nobody at Hampden was available last night. After the incident a spokesman said: "The stewards formed the opinion both (supporters) had consumed excess alcohol.

"One mentioned he had Huntington's Disease and confirmed he had consumed alcohol. A balanced decision was taken."
