MILLIONS of people across the world tuned in for the highly anticipated 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who on the BBC last night.

Three former time lords teamed up for the special episode, which aired in more than 90 countries.

Legendary doctor Tom Baker, who starred from 1975 to 1981, made a last-minute appearance, while Matt Smith and former Doctor David Tennant also showed up, along with John Hurt, in an attempt to save Gallifrey from the daleks.

The BBC claims the show is likely to be the largest simulcast of a TV drama in history as hundreds of UK cinemas, including 400 in 3D, and thousands more around the world screened The Day of the Doctor.
