Dooking and diving into 2013

SCOTLAND'S Loony Dookers made a splashing start to 2013 as 1100 of them took a dip in the cold waters of the Forth to welcome in the new year.

The annual January 1 Loony Dook at South Queensferry saw participants take the plunge in a range of costumes to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charities.

All the places for the dip, which first started with a handful of swimmers in 1987, were snapped up.

Frances Sutton, spokeswoman for Edinburgh's Hogmanay, said: "There were people wearing wedding dresses, there was a Fred Flintstone outfit and a mankini. It was brilliant."
