A 94-YEAR-OLD woman has denied causing the death of a cyclist by driving dangerously.

Alice Ross, who was born in July 1918 when cars were still a rarity on Britain's roads, is thought to be the oldest person prosecuted in Scotland.

It is alleged that she drove on the wrong side of a road in Caithness, mounted a verge, drove along a pavement and hit a couple who were holidaying in Scotland to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.

Elaine Dunne, 30, from Leicester, had been standing at the side of the road with husband Christopher and their bikes when she was struck and killed.

The incident happened near Auckengill, by Keiss, Caithness.

Mr Dunne, also 30, was severely injured, but survived.

The couple had been on a week-long camping holiday and were cycling back to Wick to catch a train home.
