A driver has died in a crash between two lorries on a motorway.

The accident involving an articulated lorry and one carrying cattle happened on the M74 near Elvanfoot, South Lanarkshire, at about 1.20pm yesterday.

The 49-year-old driver of the cattle float died at the scene, police said. The 45-year-old driver of the other lorry was not injured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Constable Kenneth Beeby said: "I would appeal to anyone who has information to contact police via the non-emergency number 101."
