Driver dies in Western Isles crash

A motorist has died following a car crash in the Western Isles.

The single-vehicle collision happened on the on the A867 at Strombane, near Lochmaddy in North Uist shortly after 8pm last night.

William Morrison, 58, the driver of the car, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Police Scotland said he was from Locheport in North Uist.

The collision forced the closure of the road for some time, with diversions onto the A865.

Anyone with any information relating to the incident is urged to contact police on 101 or their local police office.
