A driver who died in a two-car crash in Orkney has been named by police.

James Bews, 36, collided with another car which was carrying two adults and two young children on the A965, Kirkwall to Stromness road, near Finstown shortly after 5pm on Friday.

The four people from the second car were taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall with minor injuries and were later discharged.

Mr Bews, who lived on Orkney, was travelling alone in the car and died at the scene. His family have been informed.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them by calling 101.
