Drivers hit by new rise in fuel cost

THE president of the AA, Edmund King, has warned that drivers "can't take any more", after the latest hike in the cost of petrol.

After surging 5p a litre in a month, the price of petrol at the pumps has gone up a further 1p in the last five days, the motoring organisation said.

It blamed a plunging pound and stock market speculators for the new rise, which has taken the average cost of petrol in the UK to 138.32p a litre, with diesel up 4.78p from mid-January to 145.10p. In Scotland, the average price of petrol is 137.8p.
