Average-speed cameras might not be installed on parts of the A9 that are already dual carriageway, Scotland's Transport Minister has revealed.

Keith Brown said discussions would take place with the police and Transport Scotland about whether it was necessary to introduce cameras on the southern section through Stirlingshire and south Perthshire, which has been a dual- carriageway for decades.

Objections have been made by regular users of the road, who complained that their use between Dunblane and Perth would be "overbearing and Big-Brotherish".

Independent motorists' groups, including one called The Real A9 Problem, have also said that speed cameras "are not the answer" and fully dualling the route as fast as possible was the only way to reduce accidents.
