Duchess admits to nerves over birth

The Duchess of Cambridge yesterday confessed that she was nervous about giving birth as some of her supporters leapt to her defence against a scathing attack by novelist Hilary Mantel.

The royal, who is four months pregnant, showed off her baby bump for the first time at a public event.

Her concerns about the birth in July came as she chatted to a group of women recovering from drink and drug addictions at a treatment centre run by the charity Action On Addiction, of which she is patron.
