ONE of Glasgow's best-known restaurants has gone into administration.

Accountancy firm French Duncan, has been appointed joint administrators of Sanstef Limited, which traded as Paperinos@78.

The Italian restaurant business, at 78 St Vincent Street, has run into financial problems, which administrators blamed on the current economic climate.

Administrators yesterday confirmed there had been 21 redundancies, following the announcement.

Brian Milne and Eileen Blackburn, partners at French Duncan, have been appointed joint administrators.

The restaurant was opened four years ago by Sanstef directors, brothers Stefano and Sandro Giovanazzi.

It is understood the city centre restaurant has been closed for about a week. Mr Milne, joint administrator, said "Our enquiries are at a preliminary stage.

"However it is clear that, despite the directors' best efforts, the restaurant has struggled in recent months due to depressed market conditions and intense competition in the local area."

The restaurant opened in 2009, to coincide with the 75th birthday of Walt Disney's Donald Duck character, from which the venue derived its name.

Administrators said Paperino's West End has been unaffected by the administration and remained open for business.
