Edinburgh to host writers' conference

Scottish writers Ali Smith and Irvine Welsh will be among the delegates at the first Edinburgh World Writers' conference.

The conference, at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, will see 50 delegates from 25 countries discussing and debating the role of fiction in society.

From August 17 to 21, the conference will discuss a topic originally tabled at the 1962 Edinburgh Writers' Conference.
