Wick Academy striker Gary Weir was still "over the moon" yesterday as he came to terms with his spree against Fort William at home on Saturday.
He reached his tally within the space of an hour at Harmsworth Park. Mr Weir, 26, of Thurso in Caithness, had to waited until the 30th minute to open the scoring before slotting home six minutes later. He then put six more past Fort William goalkeeper Robert Donaldson in the second half.
Mr Weir said: "I'm obviously delighted to score so many in one game and I didn't see it happening at all, especially as I'd missed a few half-chances in the first half before I scored.
"But after that it was pretty much one of those days where everything I touched went in the back of the net - it was just a lucky day for me. I scored two free kicks and I completed a perfect hat-trick too by scoring with my left foot, right foot and my head."
Andy "Juppy" Mitchell scored 10 goals for Inverness Thistle in a 10-3 win over Fraserburgh on September 6, 1952.
