An elderly man has died in a house fire, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to an address in Foggyley Gardens, Dundee, at about 6pm on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said: "Firefighting teams in breathing apparatus gained access to the property and located a fire in the kitchen area.

"Whilst extinguishing the fire a casualty was also located within the property. Tragically the elderly gentleman found within succumbed to his injuries."

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will carry out a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "The loss of life through fire is always a tragedy and it must remind us all of the need to work together to protect our communities."
