Email scandal staff moved

SEVENTEEN police officers under investigation over an email scandal are to be transferred as part of disciplinary proceedings.

The officers – found with emails of a racist and sexual nature on an internal computer system – will be moved out of Lothian and Borders Police's G Division which is based in Hawick, Roxburghshire.

A 51-year-old police officer is currently suspended and four civilian police staff identified are also set to be moved out of the Borders region.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police would not say what disciplinary action was being taken against the 21 men and women.

However, councillor Donald Moffat, vice-convener of Lothian and Borders Police Board, confirmed the officers were being transferred and said the tough stance was being taken to reassure communities and minority groups such behaviour would not be tolerated.
