Rapper Eminem is to be the first act for a new series of summer concerts in one of Glasgow's major parks.

The star will perform at Bellahouston Park in the city on August 20 in the first gig of the new Glasgow Summer Sessions programme being arranged by DF Concerts, the organisers of T in the Park.

Tickets are to go on sale for the concert on January 30 and more acts will be announced in the coming months.

Eminem last performed to a Scottish audience in 2010 as a headliner at the T in the Park festival in Kinross.

His eighth album is due to be released this year.

The Summer Sessions look set to be a major new series of outdoor concerts in Glasgow, with three to five concerts a year held over 10 days every August.

There are likely to be three major concerts this year in Bellahouston Park, each with a series of supporting acts during the day.

Organisers are hoping for a festival atmosphere with "quality food and drink" on hand. The hope is that the Summer Sessions will be a permanent fixture in the park.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts, said: "We're delighted to announce Eminem as the first major act for Glasgow Summer Sessions.

"His performance at T in the Park and his previous stadium show at Hampden were spectacular, so this will be one of the events of the year.

"As it's one of the most important music destinations in the world, we're also excited about what else we have to announce for Summer Sessions – more news soon."
