Just under one-third of the adult population visited a library in 2011. While the increase was only 1%, chiefs hailed the rise given the pressures on budgets and technological advances.
At the last count, Scotland's libraries welcomed 31 million visitors in just one year with their popularity remaining strong as they adapt to modern trends.
