Ex-referee probed over sectarian rant

SCOTTISH detectives have raided the home of a former top-flight English referee after anti-Catholic rants appeared on his website.

Officers from Strathclyde Police's National Football Co-ordination Unit searched Jeff Winter's home in Middlesbrough.

The unit is investigating remarks published on the retired match official's website following a match between Rangers and Celtic in December.
