Members of Scotland's largest caving club claim a major new find may never have been visited by man.

The Grampian Speleological Group has discovered a new passage near Appin between Oban and Fort William in Argyll.

This find comes a year after the group discovered a new cave in Applecross.

Around 650ft of new passage has been found in two sections of the same cave system, with the longest single discovery standing at around 325ft. Exploration and mapping of these caves is ongoing.

Ross Davidson, Grampian Speleological Group caving co-ordinator, said: "These are exciting discoveries and demonstrate there is still great potential for exploration in Scotland.

"Despite Appin being recognised as one of only a small number of caving areas in the country, it seems likely there is more to find. As we map these new discoveries, we would hope to find even more passage to add to the total."
