FORMER Rangers owner Craig Whyte has been given another two weeks in his legal battle to keep his Highland castle after his wife failed to turn up for a second time to defend a civil action raised by a bank for mortgage arrears.

Kim Whyte is on the title deeds of Castle Grant with her estranged spouse.

At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, the Bank of Scotland continued their efforts to recover unpaid monthly payments on the loan the Whytes took out to buy the castle for £720,000.

Craig Whyte was represented by Inverness lawyer Duncan Swarbrick, who told Sheriff Margaret Neilson his client thought his estranged spouse would be represented by the legal firm Blackadders yesterday. However, there was no solicitor or Mrs Whyte present and the Bank's lawyer, Mary Nimmo and Mr Swarbrick had no other information.

Sheriff Neilson gave Mrs Whyte a final chance to instruct a lawyer or appear personally at a peremptory hearing on August 28 or have decree awarded against her.

Mr Whyte was also given the fortnight to negotiate further with the bank.
