Families may risk homes to pay for cost of Christmas

NEARLY 280,000 Scots may risk their homes to pay for Christmas, according to Scotland's housing and homelessness charity.

A new YouGov survey for Shelter Scotland found that one in 12 tenants – equivalent to around 83,690 people – say they expect to miss their rent to pay for the cost of Christmas.

The research carried out in November shows that in Scotland some 7% of people – equivalent to over 196,000 people – have taken or are considering taking a break from their mortgage payments for Christmas.
