FAMILY and friends of a Scout who died during an adventure holiday will gather together at a service to remember his life.

Elliot Peacock, 14, was killed while on a trip to the Italian Alps.

The teenager, from Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, was one of 40 Eastwood District Scouts enjoying a nine-day break when tragedy struck.

On Friday relatives and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a thanksgiving service at Newton Mearns Baptist Church.

The service starts at 2.30pm and everyone who knew the youngster, who attended Eastwood High School, is welcome to attend.

Elliot's parents Colette and Scott paid tribute to their only child, calling him the "loveliest son we could possibly have wished for".

They said his "joyful presence will be missed so very much".

Elliot died on Sunday June 29 after he jumped into a pool at the Lillaz Falls, about 5000ft above sea level, in the Gran Paradiso National Park.

As the Herald previously reported, tributes have flooded in to the teenager.

His friend James Hay, 14, said: "He was a really funny guy and he made everyone around him happy."

Facebook users are continuing to leave messages on a specially dedicated page of the social networking site, entitled 'Elliot Peacock will always be remembered'.

Marjory Lamond wrote: "I didn't know this young man, but my heartfelt sympathy goes to his parents, family and his broad spectrum of friends. It was a dreadful thing to happen, but God must have wanted him badly."

Another user, Pamela Adkins wrote that she was "truly heart broken for the family. He was simply on loan to this world, too little time." Wendy Ross wrote on the page: "God love you Elliot we will miss you sweet dreams xx."

His parents have asked for no flowers, but donations can be made in Elliot's name to the Clyde Regional Scout Council at www.clydescouts.org.uk
