A TEENAGE dental nurse who had gone missing sparking a police appeal for her to contact them has been found dead.

Sarah Smith, 19, had not been seen since 6pm on Sunday prompting a public appeal for her to let her family and the police know she was safe.

Sarah, of Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, was last seen in the Gourock area with her boyfriend. Police said her body had been discovered in water at Cardwell Bay. A post mortem examination is set to be carried out to confirm the cause of her death and her devastated family have been told of the developments.

Sara worked as a trainee dental nurse at Kilbarchan Dental surgery and Belhaven Dental Surgery in Greenock.

Her Facebook page had been inundated with messages from concerned friends and family begging her to get in touch but was last night filled with messages of condolence.

Abby Reilly? wrote: "Genuinely so shocked. Only spoke a few times but you were such a sweet and lovely girl. I really hope the news is false but if it's not.. Sweet dreams sweetie." Sayra Harvey? wrote: "Can't believe the news, rest in peace."Concerned friends had left dozens of messages on social media asking Sarah to contact them before the news of her death emerged.

Carol Willitts said: "If you can read these messages please just let someone know your safe even if you don't want go home. We are all worried about you. Need to know your okay sis. Love you get in touch xxxxx."
