Family pays tribute to Neil Armstrong

PIPER Van Wagenen, one of Neil Armstrong's 10 grandchildren, prepares for a memorial service celebrating the life of her grandfather, the first man to walk on the moon.

She was at the Carnargo Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, as US flags on all government buildings flew at half-mast yesterday in honour of the astronaut, who died last Saturday aged 82.

A family funeral took place in Cincinnati, the city where Armstrong was born. His two sons will read eulogies at a public memorial service in Washington on September 12.
