THE heartbroken parents of Eilish Herron, who died in a car accident last week, say they will hold an 18th birthday party for her next month.

Shanneal and John Herron say they will mark the youngster's milestone with a family gathering in her memory.

Eilish, 17, died on Wednesday afternoon after being run over at the Asda filling station in Linwood, Renfrewshire.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

In the meantime, the distraught parents will try to find comfort with other loved ones on Sunday, October 12.

Mrs Herron said: "It will be a big get together. It's what Eilish would have wanted because she loved family events."

Mr Herron added: "Eilish lived every day to the full and was loved by everyone.

"She made an impact on countless people and ever her primary school teachers have got in touch to say how upset they are. As hard as it is to accept that she is gone, I wouldn't swap the 17 years we had with her for the heartbreak we are going through now.

"We both told her every day that we loved her and have no regrets about any-thing left unsaid."

The distraught parents have also said they bear no ill-will towards the elderly driver involved in the crash.

Mrs Herron said: "We are absolutely devastated and trying hard to accept that Eilish has gone, but we bear no ill-will to the elderly driver who killed her.

"It was a freak accident and we believe that he has become immensely distres-sed by it all. The police have told us he has taken it very badly and we are concerned for his health."

Eilish's parents are also considering a fund-rasing initiative to help young athletes. She was a well-known netball star in her community and was recognised as Renfrewshire's Young Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Mrs Herron added: "It is certainly something we are giving thought to because Eilish was always keen to coach youngsters and to help them excel."
