One in five trainee doctors has witnessed somebody being bullied at work and more than a quarter have been undermined by senior colleagues, according to a General Medical Council survey.

The poll of 54,000 trainees across the UK found 13% had been victims of bullying and harassment in their post, while 27% had experienced undermining behaviour from senior staff.

Furthermore, 20% had witnessed someone else being bullied in their post.

The findings also revealed that more than 2000 doctors in training (5.2%) had raised a concern about patient safety in 2013.
