A drunken boat owner who sparked a dramatic rescue operation on a Scottish loch has been fined £200.

John Mclaughlin invited double the recommended number of people on to his boat for a party during the summer but got into trouble in the middle of Loch Lomond in the early hours of the morning of May 24.

The weight of the human cargo on the 24ft motor cruiser caused the outboard motor to flood and die.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard McLaughlin, 41, the skipper, did not have enough life jackets for all seven people on board the cruiser, the Carpe Diem.

McLaughlin, of Lennoxtown in East Dunbartonshire, pled guilty to being master of a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
