Fire crews fight blaze at Glasgow Airport's main terminal

Firefighters were called to tackle a small blaze which broke out at an airport tonight.

The fire started in the main terminal building of Glasgow Airport at about 7pm.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said thermal imaging cameras and cutting tools were used to locate the seat of the fire within a wall space of the concourse.

Members of the public were helped away from the area and the flames were put out.There were no reports of any injuries.The service said crews from its Renfrew, Paisley and Johnstone stations attended.Group Commander Stuart Mclean said: "Tonight saw a great example of close partnership working between airport staff, police officers and firefighters."An incident with the potential to cause significant disruption has been dealt with quickly and effectively."A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said the fire, which was in the arrivals area, did not disrupt any outgoing flights.However, he said some incoming passengers were held up for a short time on their way back to the terminal while an alternative route was sought.During the incident, William Bain, Labour MP for Glasgow North East, sent a message to his Twitter followers, which said that passengers arriving at the airport were delayed for about an hour.He tweeted soon after: "First time been involved in a fire procedure where people are penned in to a building rather than immediately evacuated."
